Jenny is an Amazing Woman of History. Overcoming a difficult childhood (foster care, illegitimate and poor), Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale became a world renowned opera singer whom Mendelssohn called "the most gifted artist of the century. She was befriended by Queen Victoria, and was a generous contributor to Harriet Beecher Stowe's anti-slavery movement. Jenny was a philanthropist, a woman of great faith, the first superstar in America. During the West Virginia Humanities History Alive presentation, you will hear of her amazing life and adventures. JoAnn Peterson is an actor and singer who has performed professionally and in community theater. JoAnn has turned her love for acting and history into performing first person portrayals of some of history's most amazing women. After JoAnn visited the Woman's Club of Fairmont, the former home of Thomas & Annie Fleming, for our Lavender & Lemonade Tea and Tour, she found our Mansion beautiful and exciting and a perfect place to have a Victorian Tea and portray the Amazing Jenny Lind. The Woman's Club looks forward to seeing you at the Mansion on March 10th. A delicious "Victorian Tea Fare" awaits you. Come and take a step back in time that includes our own Betty Pat Lee playing the "Grand Piano" during the Tea.
