The Perfect Day: January

It’s a new year and a new day! And with that? A new blog series . . . The Perfect Day.

For this new New Year’s Resolution, the goal is to help you plan and set a budget for a perfect day in Marion each month.

So let’s begin!

Elements of a perfect day: Rest. Health. Fun.

Now, it’s time for a readily compiled list of what I foresee to be the Perfect Day in Marion this month.

And that day is January 17. I know, I know, it isn’t a weekend. Hopefully, your job is flexible or you can take a day solely for self-care. If not, many of these activities can be done in somewhat the same fashion on a Saturday.

Rest

After we sleep in, we’ll start the day taking a walk by the river at Palatine Park. A cold walk down by the riverfront all bundled up with a sweater and scarf kinda sounds pretty perfect to me.

Health

And after that, walk across the bridge (to get your steps in!) for a delicious breakfast at the Little Red Hen Bakery. To make it even more inexpensive and healthier, take advantage of the free lemon water!

yoga poseNow is the time to head over to Main Street Yoga. Be sure to sign up beforehand on their website for a free health strategy session just for you. If you haven’t noticed, we’ll be checking off New Year’s goals one right after another today!

After your personal health strategy session, we’ll be going to … the same place.

12:15-12:45 p.m. It’s called the 30 Minute Refresh for a reason. It’s 30 minutes obviously, and it’s a refreshing time to refill your tank before going back to work or enjoying the rest of your Perfect Day. This session is geared for all ages and all abilities.

Refreshed and aware and away we go! Grab lunch at Hermosilla’s Deli on East Side. My favorite is the chicken salad sandwich. It’s a little lighter in calories but just as flavorful as anything else.

Why are we on East Side? Because we’re on our way to maintaining all the New Year Resolutions like keeping a budget, reading more, exploring more and learning more. Walk or drive to Kerri’s Korner Bookstore. They have plenty of shelves of new and used books filled with titles spanning all genres.

Fun

Now we have two options. Either stay on East Side to paint pottery at Mountain Creative or go back into downtown for a pottery class at Joe n Throw Pottery Studio. Either way, you’ll get both fun and art in on your Perfect Day. Pick whichever one because you can’t go wrong!

The pottery class at Joe n Throw is called Pints n’ Pots. It’s at 6:30 p.m. and includes clay and a craft beer. Feel very Demi Moore in Ghost with Patrick Swayze sans Patrick Swayze … and ghosts.

This is just one of the many combinations of a Perfect Day in Marion County. So don’t forget about a budgeting app (like EveryDollar, Good Budget, YNAB (You Need A Budget) for starters) because we’ll be having another Perfect Day next month for you to look forward to.

How would you spend a perfect day in Marion?
