June’s Perfect Day in Marion
7 ways to make June 15th a perfect day
June 11, 2019Prepare yourselves for a jam-packed day of summertime fun in this month’s edition of A Perfect Day in Marion.
What day will I choose? Well, I think it’s pretty obvious… Saturday, June 15.
Some of the most perfect days of the year are the ones that occur during the summer. It isn’t summer in name only but in temperature as well. And that means that I need…
Ice cream!
Pufferbelly’s Ice Cream Station is making original flavors, and that’s exactly what summer calls for – food adventures! Here are only a few of the many possibilities I may get into…
Butter Bourbon Truffle Ice Cream
Peach Ice Cream with real peach slices.. or maybe a sweet tea and peach ice cream milkshake
PB&J Sandwich Ice Cream
Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn Ice Cream
Caramel Cheesecake Cookie Monster Ice Cream
S’mores Shake
They also have delicious meals, second only to the ice cream flavors you literally can’t get anywhere else.
As you can imagine, this time of year calls for lots of summery activities…
A new experience is more than a necessary summer activity! Where do you find this in Marion? The Pricketts Fort Blacksmith Hammer-In is definitely a show to see, where experienced blacksmiths make their axes, hooks, and tools right in front of your very eyes!
Blacksmithing – and watching blacksmithing – is hot work. Cooling off at The Wave Pool at East Marion Park would feel great after that! It has cabanas, flotation tubes, and completely redone bathrooms. My game plan is to get a tube, take it out to the deep end and ride the waves while I get a nice tan.
But I don’t want to get a sunburn! So to prepare for this day, I’m going to Health Naturally for healthy sunscreen to cover myself in often and repeatedly.
It isn’t just about your skin, but your suit. It’s been quite some time since I’ve bought a new swimsuit, so I think I can justify the purchase. And thankfully, Marion County has a super cute place to shop for super cute swimsuits. Britain&Brooks has one piece swimsuits, bikinis, wraps, and cute denim shorts. A pair of sandals wouldn’t be a bad idea, either!
After a long day of ice cream, watching the 18 century in action and “swimming,” I’ll be more than a little hungry and thirsty.
Thank goodness for the Smokin’ on the Buffalo Barbeque Brawl!
This is the first time that a Barbeque cook-off of this magnitude has been held in Mannington! The event is legit with Kansas City Barbeque Society-certified judges. I’m not going to compete mainly because I can’t cook, but I can eat! Tastings start at 12:30 p.m. (for $10), and with 20 teams entered, that’s probably all the BBQ I can eat! What’s even cooler is that I could eat the barbeque of the winner of the whole event… Why is that cool? That talented human will have a chance to represent West Virginia at the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational. Plus – as if that weren’t enough – the BBQ Brawl is a qualifying event for the American Royal BBQ Event! I don’t fully know what all this means, but I know it’s a big deal!
It’s not just food that’s getting me to Mannington, but the most entertaining live entertainment I’ve ever seen! I will finally get to see another Real Shoot Pro Wrestling match. You have no idea how fun this is, so bring the kids, bring the friends and prepare to be the most entertained you’ll be all summer.
Enjoy another Perfect Day in Marion!
What are you most looking forward to?
