Spring is starting to show! Head this way for early spring events,  adventures, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and more!

Early spring in the park

As the weather warms, celebrate early spring in Marion county’s state parks! Take a hike at Valley Falls State Park and check out the falls on the Tygart River; pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the river’s edge!

Learn skills that early American frontiersmen used to survive at School of the Longhunter, happening April 5-8 at Pricketts Fort State Park. Make sure you register in advance – space is limited!  

Mountaineer State History Expo

The rich history of Marion County and the state of West Virginia are waiting to be discovered at this year’s Mountain State History Expo on March 10 at the Marion County Courthouse! Enjoy live music, singing, and dancing, along with Civil War reenactments and living history interpreters. Don’t forget to take a tour of the courthouse – this event is one of the few times it is open to the public to tour. In addition, the Tri-State Antique Truck Club will have some sweet rides on display in downtown Fairmont.

McAteers St. Patricks Day Dinner


St. Patrick’s Day

Get your corned beef and cabbage fix at McAteer’s! On St. Paddy’s Day, enjoy a classic Irish meal beginning from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sláinte!

When you’ve had your fill of traditional Irish grub, head to The Rambling Root! Their St. Paddy’s Day Bash will feature green beer on tap, Irish food specials and the celebration of their one year anniversary! Stick around for music by Aurora Celtic, happening from 8-11 p.m.

Sagebrush Round-Up

Tap your toes to country music every Saturday night at the Sagebrush Round-Up! Spin your partner round and round on the dance floor or come early to enjoy a home-cooked meal. The March 31 show will also feature bluegrass music. You can also check out their country music museum.

Family Fishing Day at Curtisville Lake


Family fun

Get outside and enjoy early spring! The annual Family Fish for Fun event will take place on March 30 at Curtisville Lake. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Fishing licenses are required for participants who are 15 years of age or older, and DNR officers will be present to assist children.
