Feelin’ the Love in February
January 24, 2018
Set your heart afire this month with beautiful live music, Valentine’s Day activities, crafts, and more.
Meet the maestro
Treat yourself to an evening of brilliant classical music with Daniel Skidmore. The noted violinist and concertmaster will perform at St. Peter the Fisherman Church in Fairmont on Feb. 18.
Romantic hideaways
Marion County’s bed-and-breakfasts are just what Cupid would recommend! A Nature’s Song in Mannington offers tranquil forest walks and peaceful guest rooms.
Rhododendron House, also located in Mannington, has Victorian charm. The 1919 home features a library, sun room, and complimentary refreshments.
Pick your B&B and explore the historic district. Mannington has intriguing museums, 19th-century homes, and one-of-a-kind restaurants.
Dinner for two
Celebrate Valentine’s Day in style. Fairmont’s Backwoods at The Belmont serves sophisticated entrees like New York strip steak, Baton Rouge cioppino, and rainbow trout almondine. Save room— you’ll want that homemade cheesecake, too.
Another favorite is Muriale’s, an Italian restaurant that’s been in Fairmont since 1969. Dine on authentic family recipes like Aunt Mary’s meat lasagna, linguini with clam sauce, ravioli, and more. Don’t miss the famous meatballs!
For a casual date, try The Rambling Root. It’s a new restaurant and bar in Fairmont with seasonal entrees, sandwiches, and lots of craft beer.
Prefer conversation over a cappuccino? Fairmont’s Joe n’ Throw serves espresso and imaginative meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It even has a pottery studio!
Valentine’s Day gifts
Marion County has surprises for all sweethearts and budgets. White’s Fine Jewelry in Fairmont has a wonderful selection of rings and diamonds. If you need flowers, head to Mountaineer Florist in Mannington or Perennial Floral in Fairmont; both have gorgeous bouquets and sweet arrangements for Valentine’s Day.
Searching for an unusual gift? Pick up some honey wine at Mountain Dragon Mazery in Fairmont. They have four kinds of mead and raise their own bees, too.
Firearms and Accoutrements Show
Muskets, flintlocks, bayonets, and antique weaponry are coming to Pricketts Fortin Fairmont from Feb. 23-25. Meet skilled craftsmen, chat with reenactors, and maybe even start a new hobby! It’s the best kind of history lesson.
Fairmont Ice Bowl & Chili Cook-Off
Bundle up and head outdoors for a brisk afternoon of disc golf. Compete in the Fairmont Ice Bowl & Chili Cook-Off (and get nifty accessories!) or watch the spectacle and warm up with chili. Everything will be at the Seth Burton Disc Golf Complex in Fairmont on Feb. 24.
Time to get crafty
Don’t let those creative juices freeze! Crafting opportunities abound at Nativibes in Mannington; Mountain Creative in Fairmont; and West Fork Pottery in Fairmont.
