Find Out Why “Ya Got Trouble” on Stage at Prickett’s Fort

“Ya got trouble, my friend, right here, I say, trouble right here in River City…”

One of the most memorable lines in Meredith Willson’s Tony Award winning “The Music Man,” find out what all the trouble is about this weekend at the Prickett’s Fort State Park Amphitheater.

Let’s just say the plot involves a certain con man with no musical talent who ends up being caught by librarian love. Harold Hill sells band instruments and uniforms to an Iowa town with the promise of teaching music, but he really intends to hightail it out of town with the money. But, that all starts to change when he meets Marian the librarian.

Continuing a 56-year tradition of providing high quality outdoor theatre for the community, the Fairmont State University Town and Gown Players will present “The Music Man” four more times this weekend. The cast is made up of FSU faculty, staff and students, as well as community volunteers ranging in age from 10 to 60-something.

“Town & Gown brings together the resources and talent of FSU and the surrounding communities in a true collaborative enterprise that brings exciting and inspiring theatre to North Central West Virginia,” says FSU theatre professor John O’Connor.

Directed by FSU Theatre professor Troy Snyder, performances continue at 8 p.m. June 18, 19, 20 and 21. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for children ages 12 and younger. Filled with popular songs like “Ya Got Trouble, “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Goodnight Ladies,” “Shipoopi,” “Till There Was You” and a Barbershop Quartet, the musical will get your toes tapping. This charming show is as All-American as apple pie.

Prickett’s Fort State Park uses a living history style of interpretation to preserve, document and exhibit the past. It features an 18th century recreation of the original Pricketts Fort which provided a place of refuge from Indian attack.
