Pricketts Fort State Park
Open from late April to late October Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m.
Step back to the pioneer days at Pricketts Fort State Park, a living history museum showcasing life on the 18th-century frontier. Tour the grounds, guided or independently, and visit the Job Prickett House, home to descendants of the fort’s namesake.
Civil War Trail
Open 24/7/365.
Examine parts of history during a self-guided tour of Marion County’s Civil War Trail. See where battles raged, landmarks were saved and learn about the lives of prominent figures who shaped the region during this tumultuous period.
West Augusta Historical Society
Open May to September on Sundays from 1:30 – 4 p.m.; can call 304-986-7053 to make an appointment for other days/during other times of the year.
Visit two National Register of Historic Places sites managed by the West Augusta Historical Society. The Hamilton Round Barn, once a groundbreaking dairy farm, now houses a collection of agricultural and mining artifacts. The Wilson School Museum showcases the original bed, chair and dresser of Francis H. Pierpont, the “Father of West Virginia.” During a guided tour, explore mountain musical instruments, early school exhibits, relics of Bower’s Pottery and artifacts from the oil and gas industry.
West Virginia Folklife Center
Open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday for special events.

Woodlawn Cemetery
Open for tours by appointment.
Pay respects to the county’s influential figures at Woodlawn Cemetery, the final resting place of Governor Francis H. Pierpont and his wife Julia Pierpont, Fairmont founder Boaz Fleming and others.
Marion County Historical Society and Museum
Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Uncover the county’s past at the Marion County Historical Society and Museum, housed in the former sheriff’s residence. Explore exhibits showcasing the state’s history, including a compass used to survey West Virginia.
Telephone Museum
Open Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and by appointment.
