Coal Miners Appreciation Day

December 10, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

black and white photo of coal miners eating

The Feast of the Seven Fishes Festival is the perfect time to honor our coal miners of every nationality. The mines were full of Italians making a new life in America. There were so many Italians that signs posted around work sites and for unions were written in both English and Italian. It’s not only part of Appalachian history but of Italian American history. This is also a time to honor the Monongah Mine Disaster of 1907, which killed 362 miners.

Visit the third floor of Arts & Antiques Marketplace located in the Fairmont Mercantile to read more about our mining history and share stories of fellow miners and their families.
