The First Annual Coal Mining Appreciation Day Swap Meet
December 6, 2013 @ 10:00 am - 9:00 pm
The First Annual Coal Mining Appreciation Day Swap Meet
North Central West Virginia will host its first Coal Mining Appreciation Day/Swap Meet on December 6, 2013. Collectors of mining memorabilia will gather to buy, sell, trade, or purchase items of interest. The doors will open at 10:00 am and close at 9:00pm. Food will be available for sale and there will be a cash bar after 4:00pm. There will be no admission charge for the event.
This will be a great opportunity for the survivors of miners to bring artifacts to be identified and appraised. There will be no pressure to sell the items.
“North Central West Virginia and even into the neighboring states is certainly “Coal Country” and home to many generations of coal miners. Very few parts of the United States have such a rich coal mining history and heritage. This event will be an opportunity to meet with other miners, relatives and descendants of miners and knowledgeable collectors to find out what items are worth or just exchange stories.” explains Mike Rohaly, President of the Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association.
In addition, oral histories with be recorded in conjunction with the Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center.
“The Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association who is hosting the event recognizes this as a great opportunity to keep the region’s coal mining heritage alive. It is planned to be an annual event which will also supplement the organization’s fundraising activities. Profits will help NACMHA to continue this heritage out-reach to the community and the region through programs and ultimately the creation of a world-class museum.” stated Blair Montgomery, one of the organizers of the event.
Interested vendors must reserve a table by November 27, 2013. Tables are 6’ in length and will be available for $25.00 each. To reserve a vendor table please contact Blair Montgomery at 304-366-4763 or bm26554@gmail.com.
