Mekoce Shawnee Honoring the Winged Ones Pow Wow
October 8, 2014
A pow wow. A raptor. And some tacos.
Where can you find all that in one place?
At the Mekoce Shawnee Honoring the Winged Ones Pow Wow, hosted by the Sagebrush Round Up.
You may be thinking, “How have I gone my whole life without ever learning any of those words?”
Let’s break it down. The Mekoce are a band of the Shawnee tribe. And they honor the Mekoce Shawnee of WV Raptor Sanctuary Inc. with a ceremony. (Thus, the “Winged Ones Pow Wow.”)
Sounds boring? Well this isn’t a typical, run-of-the-mill, ordinary ceremony. This is a North American Indian concert, foods and dance party!

So where do the tacos come in?
Indian Fry Bread and Indian Tacos! I don’t know what it is either. I’m just excited to eat!
What about the dancing? (To work off the fry bread obviously.)
This year’s host drum is Red Circle & Sunset River, joined by guest drums Mother Earth Beat. Join in the Native American dance circle, or watch and enjoy the culture.
