Savvy Shoppers Know to Take Exit 136
This upscale, resale boutique on Fairmont’s East Side is worth the drive. We promise. Your inner bargain shopper will thank you.
Savvy Consignment, 209 Market St., has been in business a little over a year in its location, which is a quick jump off I-79 Exit 136 and the Gateway Connector.
Owners Kim Dicken and her mom, Debbie Dicken-Hart, traveled together to different consignment stores for years—then they opened their own in a beautifully renovated storefront.
“It was something that my mom and I always wanted to do. We found the building and everything just came together,” says owner Kim Dicken. “We’ve been pleased. “It’s been great.”
Check it out and bring your friend and your daughter. You won’t be disappointed. You’ll find women’s clothing up to size 3X, junior sizes starting at 0, prom and evening wear, shoes, purses, jewelry, scarves and other accessories. All the clothing is clean and pressed, and there are dressing rooms for your convenience.
Best selling brands are Chico’s, Talbots, Ann Taylor, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Miss Me, Hollister, AE, Victoria’s Secret and Macy’s and Nordstrom brands. Don’t be surprised when you also see Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Coach.
Here are just a few of the fabulous finds that can be yours right now:
- Large Coach tote, $85.99.
- KHLOE West Virginia necklace, $8.75. “A lot of people come in for them,” Kim says.
- Gold Tiffany necklace, $100.00.
- Blue Calvin Klein dress, size 10, $14.99.
- Coach sling backs, size 6 ½, $40.99.
Items accepted for consignment are on sale for only 90 days, so shop often because the store selection is always changing. And there’s always a sale. After 30 days and 60 days, the prices of items are reduced even further.
“We have things that I’ve never seen before. There’s always something different that you can find here that you can’t find in the stores right now,” Kim says. “I don’t think people realize all that we have.”
Savvy Consignment is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call (304) 367-9099. Want to keep shopping? Just around the corner is Rider Pharmacy, 303 Merchant St., which has antiques, jewelry, candles, collectibles and much more.
Bonus fashion tip: The spring is a great time to check back for prom and formal dresses, bridesmaid dresses and mother-of-the-bride dresses.
