Now in its 11th year, this event has drawn over 260 runners each of the last 3 years. Last year runners came from 22 West Virginia counties and 10 states.
The scenic double out and back course has 2 “legs”. The first section, nearly 5 miles long, is paved, travels the MCPARC trail through the historic Meredith Tunnel and then turns around. The 2nd part is on the Mon River Trail which has a soft crushed limestone surface. This level and accurately measured course (USATF certified) is perfect for a “personal best” time.
The first 400 registrants / finishers received a knit hat, a pair of gloves and a finisher medal. Runners may look forward to a bowl of chili and lots of other food after finishing. There are five opportunities for water during the race.
Runners may register in advance (either online or by printing a form & mailing it in) saving $10 or register the day of the race. For registration details, the competitive awards breakdown and other information please visit the listing at Runningintheusa. Registration and post-race food will be at Pricketts Fort’s old visitor center.
There are hour long videos of the 2009 and 2013 races on You Tube.
The event benefits Literacy Volunteers of Marion County, a United Way agency and a 501©(3) entity.
